SUMMARY: The Manufacturing engineering manager plays a crucial role in driving the success of all Label Manufacturing engineering initiatives and projects by effectively managing resources, fostering teamwork, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing all technical support needed across SAL. Their primary role is to plan, coordinate, and control the fulfillment of required manufacturing processes for all manufacturing sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Technical Expertise: Providing technical guidance and support to SAL and team members, resolving technical issues, and ensuring adherence to engineering best practices and standards.
  • Project Management: Planning, scheduling, and coordinating engineering projects to meet deadlines and budget constraints. This includes Capex, cost reduction projects, and product related improvement projects.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with engineering projects, equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. This includes creation and fulfillment of FMEA process and equipment succession planning.
  • Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to ensure that products meet the required standards. This involves inspecting production output, analyzing quality data, addressing non-conformances, implementing corrective actions, when necessary, full support of ISO-9001 compliance. Create and maintain all Engineering Processes for SAL. Including document management and control.
  • Process Improvement: Lead the continuous improvement effort for SAL manufacturing and product development. Promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the engineering team, fostering innovation, and staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction through data analytics.
  • Performance Monitoring: Take ownership of engineering and manufacturing data. Create dashboards to track engineering projects, production metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Utilize the data to assess and improve the efficiency, productivity, and quality of the engineering and manufacturing processes. Provide regular updates to management on engineering projects.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with other departments such as product management, production, and quality assurance to align engineering efforts with business goals and requirements.
  • Production Support: Lead and support new part introduction, sustaining engineering, and cost reduction efforts across all manufacturing sites. Fulfill all product data management, tooling design, plate artwork, and printing plate fabrication.
  • Team Management: Lead and manage the technical teams, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to employees. Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and encourage continuous skill development.
  • Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and senior management, to understand their needs and expectations and address any concerns.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that processes and equipment comply with health and safety regulations. Promote a safe working environment, conduct risk assessments, and implement measures to minimize workplace hazards and accidents. Provide technical support to the SAL Safety Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  •  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience required.
  • Product Development experience preferred.
  • Experience in the flexographic printing industry is a strong plus.
  • Proven manufacturing business and operational acumen required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of implementing lean manufacturing and delivering improved cost, lead time, and quality.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ERP system utilization.
  • Project Management Certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting a Quality Management System business strategy and ISO Certification preferred.
  • Flexographic plate exposure, wash, and drying equipment.
  • ESKO platemaking system (software & hardware)
  • Epson Perfection 2400 photo scanner.
  • Adobe Illustrator.
  • Digital Front End Prepress System experience preferred.
  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and InDesign preferred.
  • Proficiency with Apple Mac computer platform is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands for this position would require a normal range of mobility necessary to physically enter and move in a manufacturing environment and interface with all functions within the facility. The employee is frequently required to talk and listen.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  Moderate

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee primarily works in an office and production floor environment.  The employee is frequently required to enter and work on the production area of the facility with exposure to loud noises and moving equipment.
